My atmosphere is basically relaxed and homey.
I believe there should be at least one place where a child can go and be treated with respect therefore, I do not allow children to tease, ridicule or harm others in any way. Forms of discipline (pre-school age and up) for such behavior range from time-out, redirection, loss of privileges or use of an item, or correcting something themselves. For the older ones (second grade and up), all the before mentioned methods as well as peer mediation. I don't accept only "cookie cutter kids". To pass a difficult child on to another care giver only wastes the teachable moments. I try to teach them choice and consequence. I do try to catch them at being good and give praise so as to encourage good behavior.
I am big on communication. This may manifest itself in the form of annual and summer schedule handouts, daily verbal reports, posted notices in the entryway and on the calendar, and personal notes/letters to the parent.

|
Staffing Info:
Currently, five children to one adult. June 2011 Bambino Bungalow will be a husband/wife team with a child adult ratio averaging four children to one adult.

|

Curriculum:
I use the Star-Brite pre-school curriculum.
My learning activities are included in my fees. Past learning activities have been visits by the Fire Dept. and Mission PD, Teddy Bear Picnics, Water Play Days, Educational presentations by Ernie Miller Park staff, Theme days and various other activities.
It is common for former daycare children of mine to ask to come back to my house for the summer. This has included those in their early teens and those I watched as pre-schoolers.
I teach them common kindness and courtesy, how to properly apologize, sharing and animal safety/kindness. At my home I will teach children basic manners: saying "please", "thank you", and "excuse me" when needing past a person or after body noises, not yelling or running in the house (I encourage them to do this outside to little their heart's desire).
|
Additional Information :
I believe kids toilet train at different times according to development. I encourage but do not pressure. I believe training too soon only trains the parent to clock watch rather than teaching the child to understand body feelings. I do train boys to be "seated gentlemen" to avoid "over-spray", puddles and soaked socks!
|
Parent Information :
My references are comprised of former day care families so
they do not feel compelled to give me a favorable review.
I accept SRS and give a second child discount.
