Small group preschool setting with the comforts of home. I have great children and great parents!! Welcome to Miss Dawn’s home care preschool. I have 18+ years of experience as a mother, teacher, volunteer, and provider. I offer an age appropriate curriculum that is designed to give your child the opportunity to develop the readiness skills needed to enter kindergarten. The daycare is set up with two main rooms designed to stimulate and invite the children to learn and have fun at school with all the comforts and love of a home setting. I strive hard to provide this type of environment for your child. The most important person in your life is my top priority while he/she is in my care. Qualifications: 18+ years experience Former preschool teacher Mother of four CPR and first aide certified Active PTA board member at local elementary and middle schools Daily Preschool Program Philosophy I believe in educating a child through a hands on approach. While formal instruction can be important, without the visual and physical stimulation needed by a small child, the concept may be lost. I prefer for the children to use an actual life experience verses formal instruction to learn. We engage in many projects, crafts, cooking, creative movement and imaginative play to reinforce the concept we are learning. I believe in praising each child for their individual accomplishments and allowing them to learn at their own pace. For this reason, it is easy to teach a variety of ages at once...each child according to their age will come away from the lessons with what is appropriate for their age. I believe in re-directing for the very young child. Discipline usually should never be a big issue in a small group setting if the provider is continually monitoring and engaging the children in a variety of fun and educational activities. I believe in potty training when the child shows the signs that they are ready. Sometimes this is not at the time the parents would like to see the child trained. I believe in providing for the child with the parent's wishes as my priority, however potty training cannot be accomplished successfully if the child is not ready. Registration & Tuition NO REGISTRATION FEE!! A one week deposit is due upon enrollment. Second week deposit due within thirty days. Deposit appplies to last two weeks of care with proper written notice of intent to terminate. Signed contract, permission, and release forms must be in hand prior to first day in care. Proof of immunizations and copy of health insurance card also required. First week's tuition due upon enrollment. Tuition is paid Friday for the following week. Staffing Info I am the primary provider for the children. My daughters, 18 and 15, are both homeschooled and I use their occasional assistance with a project or a field trip as a learning tool for them. The children love them!! If I have an appointment, my mother will stay with the children or I will take them to the home of a provider friend. Parent Info I accept Full and Part Time Monday through Friday. I also accept drop ins when space is available as well as I will substitute for your regular provider when on vacation or leave. "School time enrollment only" is Monday through Friday from 9AM to 11:30PM. Curriculum My curriculum encourages creative, social and emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development. The daily activities we engage in will help develop letter recognition and letter sounds (phonics used), colors, counting, days of the week, months of the year, the weather, seasons, monthly themes (all about me, feelings, transportation, the food groups, dinosaurs, farm animals, National Fitness Month and more), pre-writing (Denelian used), fine and gross motor skills, art and sensory stimulation, early math, language, and reading skills. The activities are balanced throughout the curriculum. Free play is offered daily and the children will choose their own games and activities available geared towards enhancing their creativity, growth, and development. Weekly activities include many, many creative art projects (my speciality), cooking, show and tell, share a book day, a pre-ballet and tap class, and music time. Celebrations are given for every child's birthday, a Halloween party, a Thanksgiving feast, a Christmas gift exchange, visit to Santa Claus, secret shopping for the parents, siblings, and pets, stockings and presents for all, Valentine's party and card exchange, St. Patrick's lucky party, Easter party and baskets filled with goodies, end of the school year party, Fourth of July celebration, summer bbq, and a welcome back celebration. We recognize our families with a special present handmade by the children on Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, and birthdays for any family member if requested. Each child learns at their own pace. The small group atmosphere allows the additional time to work with a child that may need extra help while the other children are engaged in another activity. Open communication between staff and parents is vital to encourage your child’s growth. Knowing what your child is experiencing during his/her day allows you to reinforce those skills and activities at home. Therefore, daily and weekly reports on your child’s progress will be provided. We encourage your visits to the day care home. Special activities and events to share your child’s development are scheduled for you to attend throughout the year.
